In response to > From: Cheol Kim <oodis01!uplherc!esunix!ckim@TIS.LLNL.GOV> > Organization: Evans & Sutherland, Salt Lake City, Utah Is Evans and Sutherland finally thinking about using transputers ? >> 1) What is a transputer? It is a wonderful thing, especially when you have lots of them. >> 2) To what OS is helios most similar? > Following is taken from someone else's message. Pardon me. It's nothing, go ahead. > * Helios: (Perihelion Software Ltd.) > ... stuff deleted ... > Helios is already being used for a wide variety of transputer-based > applications: for embedded systems, for PC and other plug-in > boards, for workstations and for transputer-based computer systems. Add to this: the current version contains a lot of bugs, some systematic and some stochastic. We are hoping to see a new release of Helios real soon. This looks promising, but don't look to closely at it (or it crashes !). > Patrick Van Renterghem, Seminar Coordinator "Transputers for Ind. Appl." And Transputers for Industrial Applications II. Dick Pountain wrote an article for Byte magazine in June of 1988 about Helios and the Atari Abaq project. The article is called "A Personal Transputer" and is on page 303. I recommend the article for anyone interested in an easy to find description of Helios. Has anyone seen the Atari Abaq yet? The article suggested a Sept. 1988 release date. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Roy Forsstrom forsstro%airship@stolaf.edu ACC 507-663-3289 St. Olaf College Northfield, MN 55057 Northfield: Cows, Colleges and Contentment ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
