EDINBURGH CONCURRENT SUPERCOMPUTER PROJECT
Opportunities in Parallel Processing
The University of Edinburgh is a renowned centre of expertise
in the provision of computing services based on highly parallel
computing facilities. The Edinburgh Concurrent Supercomputer
(ECS) is such a facility and is based on a large Meiko Computing
Surface (currently 400 transputer processors). When fully
configured the Edinburgh Concurrent Supercomputer (ECS) will be
capable of performing one thousand million floating point
operations per second. The software environment is provided by the
Unix operating system.
Apart from providing a service to academic users both in
Edinburgh and elsewhere the facility is also accessed by
industrial affiliates. This industrial liaison is effected by
means of a Club Membership scheme, which is underpinned by the
notion of a pool of available Club-Domain software.
Two new posts have been created on the ECS Project. The first
is a User Support Programmer who will perform duties aimed at the
support of academic users of the ECS, with particular emphasis
being laid on support to users at other universities. The second
post is that of Club-Domain Software Programmer who will enhance
the club-domain software pool.
Candidates should have a degree in Computer Science or a
related discipline and experience in some of the following areas
would be desirable:- parallel programming, C, Fortran, Occam, Unix
or VMS.
The Club-Domain position is funded for an initial one-year
period, whilst the support post is funded for an initial period of
three years. The posts are salaried on the AD1 #8675-11680 or AD2
#12150-15720 (under review) ranges with placement according to age
and experience.
