[net.news.group] net.sf-lovers and tv

mae@aplvax.UUCP (12/14/83)

As one of the guilty ones submitting Doctor Who articles to
net.sf-lovers I don't agree with setting up a separate newsgroup
for every sf tv show. There are a lot of them out there that I would
love discussing, though none of my top ten favorites were made for
American tv and most can only be seen at sf conventions.
If the chauvinists in net.sf-lovers want to insist
on keeping media other than literature out of the newsgroup,
how about net.sf.tv (or net.tv.sf). Most of these discussions
come and go rather quickly. There has been a lot on Doctor Who
just now because of the 20th anniversary special.

Of course, if you do set up a Doctor Who newsgroup I will read it
avidly, but I just posted an article on Blake's Seven to net.sf-lovers,
where will it all end?

How about creating temporary discussion sub-groups? For example,
create a 'net.sf-lovers.temp' (I know, I don't like that name
either; suggestions for a better name are hereby asked for).
When topics like the current Dr-Who topic start getting really
verbose, and annoying to the rest of the discussion group, it
can be proposed that Dr. Who. discussion moves to 'net.sf-lovers.temp'
for the duration of the discussion. When a temp discussion dies out,
the group is available for the next temp discussion. If a discussion
lasts a long time (like over two or three months), then there is a
very good rationale for it to have its own permanent newsgroup.

Why not net.tv.sf ?
