Dear Mailing List! Some weeks ago, I asked if there is something wrong with Parallelogram. (no, it still seems to be ok). I received several requests what Parallelogram is. Parallelogram is a newsletter (not a scient. journal, it also contains advertisments, product news, interviews etc.) about parallel processing (mainly hardware and systems) appearing monthly (about 30 pages per issue). It concentrates on (but is not restricted to) transputers and also serves as the voice of the transputer users group (TUG). It is free for purely academic institutions (or at least it was), for others pricing starts at 35 UK pounds a year I think (depends on UK/Europe/World and air/surface, max is 95 US $ for world/air). The address is: Parallel Publishing Ltd. 71 Collingwood Avenue London N10 3EE UK Greetings Klaus Kusche (K312240@AEARN.BITNET).

Parallelogram may *say* there is nothing wrong with them, but after promising me current and back issues over a month ago, I still have an empty mailbox. My colleagues at Cornell are in the same boat. Has *anybody* received an issue lately outside the UK? How about in the US? Perhaps PVR can answer for Europe and anybody in NA can just send me mail. ------------------------ Greg Burns gdburns@tbag.osc.edu Trillium Diving Team (614) 292-8492 Office of Research Computing The Ohio State University

Dear Mailing List, My last Parallelogram dates from january 1989 (issue 10). No problems with it if you ask me. Very useful and not at all boring. British, so a lot about transputers, but also some things about NCUBE's, IPSC's, array processors, ... I have been in touch with Parallelogram once again. All is well and the March issue is on the presses. Watch for their booth at HCCA4 and NATUG. --Greg

This follows up the several messages recently concerning recent issues of Parallelogram. I recently spoke with the Editor, Jerry Sanders. The policy on distribution of free issues is, and has always been, that free copies are distributed up to the capacity of the print-run for each issue (which is determined largely by the advertising revenue for the issue). Until recently, the number of free "subscriptions" has been low enough that everyone on the free list got a copy of each issue. The numbers on the free list have now grown beyond the point where this remains possible. Parallelogram is therefore now operating a policy of rotating the names on the free list with each issue, so that those with free subscriptions should now expect to receive a copy once every 2 or 3 issues. It's a problem of popularity, I guess! Jerry is continually considering possibly alternative methods of subscription, particularly for those currently with free subscriptions. One possibility is to introduce a lower-rate subscription for academics etc, with a guarantee of receiving a copy each issue. Would this be of interest to you? What rate would you be able to afford, or do you consider appropriate? 5 pounds? 10 pounds? 20 pounds? (Current full rate is 39 pounds). Please communicate any views on the latter direct to Parallelogram.
