The first occam compiler I ever had was a VAX/UNIX based one from a British company called The Instruction Set Ltd. (This was some four years ago.) Source code was provided and, not surprisingly, the compiler was written in occam and had a UNIX harness which was written in a mixture of C and VAX assembler. It was interesting to say the least, and for many probably not a pretty sight. I wonder what language INMOS writes its occam compilers in? Do they use compiler construction tools? Would _you_ write a compiler with occam? Anyone from INMOS care to respond? In asking these questions, I don't have any ulterior motives other than the fact that I am curious. You can do some things better in some languages than in others. What classes of problems do you think that occam (in its present incarnation) would be better for? -- bl ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Benjamin Y H Lian ACSnet: ben@tasis.utas.oz Dept. of EE & CS ARPA : ben%tasis.utas.oz.au@uunet.uu.net University of Tasmania BITnet: munnari!tasis.utas.oz!ben@ GPO Box 252C uunet.uu.net (I think) Hobart, Tasmania 7001 UUCP : {enea, hplabs, mcvax, uunet, ukc}!
