the shell script to dump doug alan should be posted to net.sources. here's an interesting test: (all articles are in the 7000-7999 range on our machine right now) ihdev: pwd /usr5/exptools/lib/netnews/articles/net ihdev: egrep "^From.*ness" 7* | wc -l 20 ihdev: ll 7* | wc -l 116 ihdev: bc scale=5 20/116 0.17241 hmmm, that's a little over 17%. if there were 7 people posting to net.music, this would be appropriate. too bad the real number is on the order of 70. (100? 100+???) if doug's postings were diversified, i (others) wouldn't care. but the sad fact it is the same ol' dribble. here it is, folks!, in one paragraph, everything alan has to say in his 17% filling of net.music. see if this doesn't sound familar... KB is great, XXXX sucks, and i don't even have to justify why, because if *I* don't think its "good music" or "artistic" or "challenging" or whatever, then it simply isn't good. if you don't think KB is one of the all-time greatest, YOU are wrong, have not seen the light, and simply don't understand. if i think XXXX is bad or irritating, it is because XXXX is bad. if we decide KBs voice can sometimes be irritating, it is a GOOD irritating, a wonderful pain we should all enjoy suffering through. i live by double standards, witness my unjustified flaming of madonna and others, yet lack of tolerance for flaming (however unjustified) of KB. there really isn't anyone else (or very few) as good as KB. i fail to recognize fantastic young musicians like wynton marsalis,(first artist to win a grammy in jazz AND classical in one year. he is 25) i fail to see the emotion in bach's music, therefore it does not exist, although people who know more about music than ANYONE on this net (music critics, other professional musicians etc) and even low-life ron vaughn have no problem feeling the emotion. i'm right and do not have to justify it to you, other than my taste suits me and should suit you. you are wrong, and can never convince me of your ideas, since i've already rejected them through far-reaching pre-conceived notions about music and musicians. and to top it off, i LOVE to flaunt just how goddamn right i am. now listen as i repeat the above paragraph once a week in many different letters, the same stuff, over and over and.... KB is great, XXXX sucks, and i don't even have to justify.. . . . . . there. that's it. and that HAS to be < 17% of the total volume in this group. one sure sign of growing up is being able to take a hint. is the shell script to dump dougs' letters a hint? is doug's hate mail a hint? is the fan mail i receive after telling doug off a hint? are there any hints in the above paragraph? just how realistic is the above paragraph? too bad doug can't promote KB without having to put down others. too bad he hasn't grasped the concepts of fandom*, taste, human diversity*, courtesy, self-inspection, self-control, hypocrisy*. (* esp. these) ok, doug, take this letter, tear it up a line at a time with your stupid little replies like you always do. this should be funny, esp. when you tear up the paragraph mocking you. because you will read "never convince me of your ideas" and (true to your form) say "that isn't true!, never never!" it will become a true self-referential paragraph, because that paragraph IS true. go ahead doug, we're all waiting, we love to see you come back and make even more of an ass of yourself, make sure you (like always) show you haven't grasped the concepts above, and make sure to insist you're right, but with no real reason. you haven't let us down so far...
