Does anybody have or know of a folding editor - similar to the one in TDS,
but as a standalone version?
I have been looking for such a thing for years - in vain. I just can't
believe that nobody has ever created anything like that because it would be an
extremly helpful tool for programming, in any language. You would suddenly
have the possibility to write your programs readable, to hide details as long
as nobody is interested and only reveal them on demand! I think that a
folding editor could even ease the conflict between structured programming and
efficiancy, because you can pack code away without introducing the call to a
subroutine.
The way to do it could be to let the user define sequences of (printable)
characters (eg. /* {{{ */ and /* }}} */ ) to mark the beginning and end of a
fold, maybe even of "filed folds" and "comment folds" etc.
So, if anybody could forward information where to get a folding editor
(running on PC, SUN, Transputer, VAX ...) it would very much be appreciated,
I'm sure not only by me.
