[net.news.group] Dying subject

chuqui@cae780.UUCP (12/23/83)

The response to the current suggestions of dying subjects seems to show
that the net is finally ready to tackle this problem. I have yet to receive
a single flame (or threat), which is in itself a rarity around here. Based
on what I have gotten (on the net and privately) here are my
recommendations for what to do:

net.movies.sw, net.rec.birds, net.rec.skydive:
Save these for now. I feel that the lifespan of sw is nearing the end,
but it still has a large number of supporters. The others seem to be
low use topics with a bit of interest.

net.applic, net.games.pacman, net.usoft.s, net.vvs, net.cse.cai,
net.records, net.ucds, net.wobegon: DEATH to the blighters!

undecided:
    net.college, net.tv.da

net.tv.da is like sw, almost ready to die, but not quite. net.college has a
lot of ambivolous feelings with no consensus, so I don't plan on doing
anything.

Since nobody seems to have any real problems with these topics, I am going
to give this last message a chance to propogate and then hop to it. Last
chance to save things.

I think that what we REALLY need to do here is develop a policy for
deleting dead smelly things off the net. It looks as though this is
starting, lets get a policy in place!

Here, for those that care, is a list of the standings and I got them....

net.movies.sw 3 die, 5 save
net.applic 4 die
net.college 4 die ,2 save
net.games.pacman	4 die
net.rec.birds 3 save
net.rec.skydive 2 save, 1 maybe (seasonal?), 1 die
net.usoft.s 4 die, 1 save
net.vvs 4 die
net.cse.cai 3 die (no topic discussion?)
net.records 5 die (merge to net.music?)
net.tv.da 4 die (temp topic, dying out?)
net.ucds 5 die
net.wobegon 5 die
