                      Trollius and the Transputer
                               Workshop

                            April 11-13, 1989

                              presented by
Advanced Computing Facility / Cornell Theory Center

The Advanced Computing Facility of the Cornell Theory Center is
offering a three-day workshop on Trollius and the transputer
April 11-13, 1989, at the Center's CNSF Training Facility in Ithaca, NY.
Trollius, the distributed operating system designed by the ACF, will
be discussed along with information on the transputer, the primary
processor on which Trollius runs.
The Workshop focuses on two areas. For those interested
in details about the Trollius operating system, an internals sessions
will be presented. For those interested in applications, concurrent
workshops will provide the opportunity to use Trollius on ACF computing
resources, and to discuss and design personal applications.
In additions, Inmos, the company which designed the transputer, will
host a session describing the transputer (particularly the T-800)
and the Inmos family of transputer chips. The ACF's NiCHE NT-1000
16 node transputer system and Topologix T-1000 4-node transputer
system will be used by workshop participants.

		Sessions include:

			Introduction to Trollius
			Introduction to application programming
			Trollius Applications
			Trollius Internals
			Trollius Porting
			The Inmos transputer

The workshop begins at 9am on Tuesday, April 11, and adjourns by 4pm on Thursday, April 13.

operating system, on use of special programming tools, and on porting Trollius.
Guest speakers from industry will discuss related development projects.

Attendees will gain hands-on experience with the ACRI's transputer-based multi-
computers, and will be given an opportunity to work on individual application
programs. Attendees who are committed to using Trollius for existing projects
are invited to remain through July 27, for in-depth consulting.

Attendees should have previous experience with UNIX systems, and in programming
with C or FORTRAN. Previous experience in parallel programming is not required.
The workshop will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, July 24 and end by 4:30 pm on
Thursday, July 26.
