PVR@autoctrl.rug.ac.be ("Patrick Van Renterghem / Belg. Reg. Trans. Supp. Center") (05/31/90)
The California company Parasoft and their European distributor, Patrick
Van Renterghem, are pleased to announce a lecture on Express and ASPAR,
organized on the first day of the Transputer Applications '90 conference in
Southampton. The lecture starts at 20h30 (following the buffet dinner,
organized at the Boldrewood Conference Centre) and is conveniently located
in the Conference Centre of Boldrewood. This is an excellent chance to
actually hear one of the designers of the Express parallel programming
environment, which is becoming increasingly popular. The presentation of
the Automatic Symbolic Parallelizer ASPAR (see Parallelogram April 90) is
a European first, and it has not yet received the attention it deserves.
To limit the number of attendees and withold only those who are really
interested, we have decided to ask a minimal participation fee of #30.
The number of attendees is hard-limited to 80 and the registration will
be done on a first-come-first-served basis.

Abstract:
Using Express and ASPAR for developing
commercial parallel applications
Adam Kolawa and Patrick Van Renterghem
Express is a complete programming enviroment for parallel processing
designed to help develop and maintain parallel programs. The
combination of configuration management, automatic paralleliser
(ASPAR), semi-automatic decomposing tools, a source level debugger and
parallel performance monitor provides a superb enviroment for
creating, testing and debugging parallel C and FORTRAN programs.
Express has been used to convert existing commercial sequential
applications into parallel programs. While new applications are still
being developed, the first two: COSMOS/M from Structural research and
Analysis Corporation of Santa Monica, California and Neural Works
Professional II from NeuralWare of Pittsburgh, Pensylvania have been
finished. Both programs achieved excellent performance on a range of
parallel machines.
The lecture is designed to familiarise you with Express and its tools.
Each tool will be described in detail and its use in developing
applications will be shown. We will also describe in detail the use of
the automatic parallelizer, ASPAR, including examples of its
application to genuine source codes.
