Does anyone have any practical experience of communicating with links over long distances (e.g. 50m to 1000m) at 5Mb or 10Mb ?. My main constraints are power consumption and weight. I've read the 'Applications Notebook - Systems and Performance' section on connecting links by buffering, RS422 and optical fibre, though some values are quoted as conservative. - Has anyone tried pushing these to the limit ?. - What driver/receiver devices were used ?. - Any improvements with RS485 over RS422 ?. - Has anyone tried bi-directional fibre optics (using a single fibre) ?. - Any comments ?.
