[comp.sys.transputer] EXPRESS

suter@latcs1.oz (David Suter) (01/31/89)

I posted a similar request to comp.parallel but received little
response - so I hope this reaches an audience with only small overlap:

I am considering purchasing a transputer network (definicon boards
with 8 transputers as the base system - hoping to expand of course
and eventually having a unix workstation host - but stuck with an AT at first).
My request is for any comments and tales of personal experiences with
the Express (parasoft) "operating system" for the transputer network.

I have read of the roots of Express (at caltech) through Fox et al.'s
book, I have also some experience with TDS and with an early version
of Trollios (Trillium): but I should say that my interest with
Express is not through disatisfaction with the latter (the Trillium
resided on a Niche board on loan to me).

With that background in mind, I would appreciate any comments and comparisons
that one can make regarding features of Express: e.g. compared with Trillios,
suggestions of other environments that may be more suitable, comments
in relation to the hardware, or from any other angle one may think is relevant.

I have already received some requests to send summaries of what I find to
others - when I have something to report I will send summaries to all
those interested.

Thanks.

I would be plesed to hear from anyone who has experience with the
'ParaSoft EXPRESS' parallel programming environment.

I am particularly interested in the performance/ease of use of the tools
available, as well as knowing the extensions to 'C' provided for a
parallel environment compared with the 3L package.....

I'm looking for an operating system for my MAC hosted Transputers.
I'm using Logical C and want to continue with it because it's a
nice compiler and I always got help from Logical when I had any question.
I've heard something about EXPRESS but here in Germany I've not found any
company selling it, neighter do I know anybody using it.
Is there anybody who is using it. I would like to know something about
it's philosophy, the interface to Logical C, the size it's Transputer
resident part is using, the possibility of several users on several
different (MAC+SUN for example) hosts at one time, the support of host
user interfaces (MAC Toolbox, Suntools) and the difference to
other systems like Helios.

Thanks in advance for any help

I'm using EXPRESS since a week. I have found the error in exgrid as well.
I was told that they will remove it in version 3.0 which i will get in the
near future.
I normally use FAX to contact Parasoft but I have a EMAIL address in
CALTECH as well. My last mail (yesterday) was bounced as undeliverable
but the first three times it worked.
If you can send me your EMAIL address we can contact directly. I would
like to know somebody to exchange experience.
I'm using a Mac, Levco's hardware and Logical C.

My EMAIL address is VOGT@EMBL.BITNET

Dear People,

I would like to know if anyone in the transputer community has any
experience with the EXPRESS communication environment for transputer
systems.

I am also looking for an address (Email, Fax) of a company which sells
this product.

Any comment would greatly be appreciated.
