[net.music] MIDIing keyboards

todd@scirtp.UUCP (Todd Jones) (08/29/85)

Sorry to interrupt the Kate Bushers with a techno-question but:

Has anyone had much experience MIDIing keyboards
	from different manufacturers?
I have a KORG Poly-61 and access to a couple of
Yamaha DX-7s. The KORG is not MIDI equipped,
but if I think I have a reasonable chance of
cross MIDIing the Poly-61 with the DX-7s, I'll
consider shelling out the $200 to have it
	converted.

	Main concerns:
	1. What happens with velocity sensitivity information
from a keyboard with it talking to a keyboard
	without and vice versa?
	2. Does pitch bend information get communicated
	well?

The reason I am skeptical is that I've had trouble
MIDIing DX-7s to each other. Sometimes the receiving
synths don't know a note has been turned off and
you get some awful droning notes etc...

	Any info or anecdotes welcome.

todd,
if you use a non-velocity sensitive keyboard to drive a slave that has
velocity sensitivity you cannot use the velocity capabilities of the
slave.....check into some midi documentation as to the problems you are
having when you interface two dx-7's .....I'm no authority , but I've
never heard of anyone having any trouble interfacing a dx-7 to another.
