J.Wexler@edinburgh.ac.uk (04/11/91)

Announcing the
Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre 1991 Seminar
Monday 23rd September, 9.30am to 5pm
James Clerk Maxwell Building, University of Edinburgh

Keynote speaker: Professor Gregory McRae (Carnegie-Mellon University)

This year's seminar, the fourth in the series, is enlarged to three
parallel streams, on Applications, Methods and Tools, and Coordinated
Programmes. It offers an overview of the Centre's activities, and an
opportunity to hear in more detail about specific projects exploiting
its facilities. There will also be presentations on major coordinated
programmes of parallel computing at other centres in Britain, and a
review of European Community programmes. The keynote speaker is the
recipient of numerous prizes and awards for his research in
environmental and computational science.

Fee: #70 including lunch and tea/coffee breaks; #55 for members of
sponsoring organisations. Admission free for registered academic users
of EPCC services, and for representatives of affiliated companies.
Prices include VAT.

Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre is an interdisciplinary focus for
parallel computing projects involving research groups within the
University of Edinburgh, industrial partners and academic users
throughout Europe. It has strong links with industry and commerce
through its affiliation scheme, to which companies subscribe from around
the world. The Centre is also supported by the University of Edinburgh,
Lothian Regional Council, and the Department of Trade and Industry, with
major recurrent funding from the Science and Engineering Research
Council and the Computer Board. EPCC has recently been selected as one
of four centres for the DTI/SERC Parallel Applications Programme, which
aims to catalyse the effective introduction of parallel computing into
real, economically important application areas. The Centre provides
service on a range of major facilities including AMT DAPs,
Transputer-based systems and a multi-i860 configuration.
