I'm wanting to do some experimentation in parallel processing, transputers, and occam. I know there's a small transputer system available for some $236 on an 16 bit ISA card. Has anyone any experience with this board? If so, what in your opinion of the system? Furthermore, what are some good beginners books on the subject? I read "A tutorial introduction to Occam programming" by dick pountain and david may, and found it fairly easy to follow, but I also felt that the examples were too simple; they assumed that the reader had a firm grasp on developing parallal algorithms. The book gave little help to people who have never used a concurrent language (like me). Anyway, sorry if this stuff is already on some FAQ. Basically I'm looking for a low-cost transputer development system (anyone willing to sell theirs?) and for opinions on the better books on the subject.
