[comp.editors] JOVE for the Macintosh/Xenix/IBM PC/UNIX

jpayne@cs.rochester.edu (Jonathan Payne) (03/17/88)

(This message was originally sent to comp.emacs, comp.sys.ibm.pc,
comp.unix.xenix, and comp.unix.microport.)

JOVE now runs on the Macintosh and under XENIX. You can get the full
distribution from cs.rochester.edu via anonymous ftp by snarfing the file
public/jove.tar.4.9.

JOVE will be posted to comp.sources.unix some time very soon...

You can also get the full source and IBM PC binaries. The following is
from Karl Gegenfurtner (karl@hipl.psych.nyu.edu), who did the PC version.

Here's the current state on how to get IBM binaries, etc.:

FTP: from hipl.psych.nyu.edu (128.122.132.2)
In the directory pub there's a README file with the latest info.
The relevant files are in jove*.arc. The Unix version is a
     compressed tar-file jove-4.9.tar.Z.
     from simtel20.arpa
Jove is in the directory PD1:<MSDOS.EDITOR> as JOVE*.ARC.

BITNET: Bitnet users can access simtel20 archives via a Listserver. If
you need more info on that, mail me a note and I'll send you detailed
     instructions.

USENET: This is a little problem. There are several possibilities. If you
have the Microsoft C Compiler V. 5.0, you can get the sources from
an archive site (once they are posted in comp.sources.unix) and
compile. If you only have Turbo C, brianc@cognos.uucp has diffs to
get Jove compiled under Turbo C. If you don't have any chance to
compile the sources, send me a note. If sufficiently many people are
interested, I can post the executable to comp.binaries.ibm.pc, if
there aren't enough requests, I can send the executable by email.

Ken Mitchum (km@cadre.dsl.pittsburgh.edu) did the macintosh version. He
says you can get the Macintosh binary (and the rest of the distribution)
from
	cadre.dsl.pittsburgh.edu
The following files are in ~ftp/pub/jove/ on that system:

   MacJove.Hqx binary
   cmds.doc for people without sources
   Readme.mac

The macintosh binary will also be posted to <info-mac> at
sumex-aim.stanford.edu and will be archived there within the next 2-3
weeks. We're not sure about comp.binaries.mac ...

With any luck a VMS version will be available in a few weeks. The diffs
for porting JOVE to Microport System V/AT should be incorporated into the
next version, as well.

You can send bug reports to any of us.
