Kevin Carothers (kevin@tticda.TTI.COM) wrote
'a,'bw! wc -l
as a means for counting lines in a block. Stacey Campbell (stacey@hcr.UUCP)
responded with an insult not worthy of repetition. To which Mr. Carothers
insulted back.
Now let's all take a look at the question that started this whole thing.
"When deleting lines from vi, I have to tell it how many lines to delete.
How can I have vi count the number of lines for me?"
Mr. Carothers' solution is to the more focused question "How can I have
vi count the number of lines for me?" to which the above solution is
indeed correct.
Ms. (Mr.?) Campbell's was responding to the larger-scale question,
"How can I have vi delete blocks of text without having to count lines?"
to which her (his?) solution is also correct.
Mr. Carothers concluded with
> You know, I've about had enough of this.
Which, I think, sums everything up.
[My apologies to Stacey Carothers for not being sure of her/his chromosomal
makeup. It's one of those names that can go both ways.]
Calmly yours,
