Greetings fellow computer users: Does anyone have an EDT emulator written for GNU emacs? I had heard that it is possible for emacs to emulate other editors, and I currently have a great need to emulate VMS's EDT. Being a vi user, I do not know how to do this myself (nor do I have the time). I am a systems administrator for a small network of Sun computers (Unix) at LLNL. Recently, the department I work for hired a person who absolutely refuses to learn a new editor. I tried to teach him the basic vi commands; figuring that vi is easy to get started with, and it is readily available. But he is used to working with the EDT editor on a VMS system and WILL NOT BUDGE. He said that he would rather remote-login to a VMS system to do his editing, and then copy his work to our network (Sounds pretty silly doesn't it?) So we are forced to provide him with EDT. A real EDT package for a Unix system would probably cost us more money than we are willing to spend. And since we already have emacs, and it is possible to emulate another editor with emacs, I thought to ask the readers of this newsgroup for help. Has anyone else faced this problem? How did you solve it? Are there cheap EDT packages for Sun's? The best solution as far as I can see is to emulate EDT with emacs. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Alan Edwards PS.
