[net.micro] The 1200/2400 baud question.

ir320@sdcc6.UUCP (ir320) (10/22/85)

Should I or shouldn't I? I am looking into the purchase of a modem to
replace this 300 baud beast I'm using now. I have the option of getting a
USR 2400 for around $380, but I've heard that these things are unreliable.
Am I better off sticking with 1200 baud in the more reliable USR Password
1200 or should I try the 2400? Am I better off with a Hayes 2400 unit
(provided this is really a 300/1200/2400 unit). How well built are the
USR 2400 units?

I have talked to a couple of SYSOPS but these are only two owners so far.
I have heard more bad stories. At least I know that Password works.

That has not been my experience, and I use my Courier 2400 daily.
Amdahl has loads of them. I'd recommend the USR Courier 2400 highly.

My experience w/ the Password 1200 has been uneven, at best. If you
were to go with a Hayes-clone 1200, there are probably others to look at.
On the other hand, I have seen VERY favorable reports on their 2400
baud beastie. If the dollars are available, I'd say buy the Courier.
