I am looking for information about commercially available LAN products, including PCnetworks. This is for a survey report on commercially available LAN systems and how they map onto the various network standards proposed by the various committees. If any body has any pointers to manufacturers/developers of LAN products or knows where I can get such information (e.g. a LAN manufacturers directory) I would be happy to know about it. Thanx. The following is a list of recent ones: "LANS-still a no man's land", ELECTRONICS NEWS, Sep 2 1985, pp. 28-29 "Standards... and the OSI Model", I&CS, April 1985, pp 49-54 "Emerging Standards...$3B Market", MINI-MICRO SYSTEMS, Feb 15,1985, pp. 59-97. Includes tables of H/W & S/W suppliers. "Hands-on network-design...", EDN, Mar 22,1984 pp 219-232. Discusses VLSI LAN chips. "Engineering Workstation Communications", VLSI DESIGN, Aug 1984, pp54-59 "1984 Local Area Networks Chart", TODAY'S OFFICE, April 1984, pp. 66-76. Also, DATAPRO Research Corp. in Delran, NJ has a section on Networks & Architectures in their DATAPRO Reports. The 32-bit Tektronix 6130 workstation is one of the few computer products that offers a LAN as a standard feature. The 6130 conforms to the ISO/OSI model and IEEE 802.3. The transmissions are compatible with the Dept. of Defense protocols found in the ARPANET network (TCP/IP). Tektronix has also implemented a Distributed File System which allows the location of a file (whether local or on another workstation) to be transparent to the application program.
