Eric, do yourself a favor, and stop using vi. Don't make the mistake
of learning an editor which you will have to un-learn a year down the
line. Learn Emacs, in any flavor, instead. If your system doesn't
have it, make them get it. Life is too short to waste switching
between buffers, insert and command mode, and the shell, when you can
have multiple windows, subprocesses, and automatic parsing of compiler
errors (not to mention undoing commands and online help!). Plus you
can read news in GNU Emacs, using GNUS.

Please. You will be doing yourself a favor.

Eric, do yourself a favor and stay away from EMACS. Don't make the mistake
of avoiding vi, a robust editor that has been around for years and is still
the choice of most UNIX users. If your system doesn't have EMACS, it's
probably because there's not enough disk space to store the manual (which
by the way, weighs in at about 115 lbs after you print it out) on line.
Did you ever see the Saturday Night Live parody about the do-it-all
product that supposedly would clean the floor, put out the cat, cook
supper and tune up the car? Did you ever wonder what it was a parody of?
EMACS!

Oops! I crossposted some anti-EMACS sillyness to this newsgroup by
mistake... it was a joke! It was a followup to an alt.simpsons posting.

No flames please!
