Jan, My favorite topic: the Sanyo 55x. First of all, I can't speak for the Video RAM board since I don't own one and consider it a waste of money (and a lot of other things besides). It is my understanding that the Video RAM board does nothing to change the communications incompatibility between the IBM and Sanyo systems, so don't even bother trying any more of those software packages. There are some excellent communications packages available for the Sanyo. I use Intellicom and Kermit regularly. Intellicom has VT-100 and VT-52 emulation and works quite nicely (although the VT-100 emulation has a couple of minor bugs -- nothing to cause you to avoid buying the package, though; and anyway they may have fixed those problems in a later release. Mine is about 6 mos. old.) You say Kermit won't work; I presume that's because you're trying to used the IBM PC version. There IS a special version for the Sanyo. If you can ftp, then you should be able to get it from Columbia (cu20b); if you need help with that let me know and I'll give further details. Sanyo Kermit does not (at this time) support any terminal emulations like VT-100, although the note on the documentation I received indicated that the author was planning to add it in later. In general, the best source of info on the Sanyo is Soft Sector Magazine; you'll find ads for other VT-100 emulators in there as well, I think. As far as the ALT key is concerned, this is documented in the Sanyo User's Manual that came with the machine (yes, this manual actually does contain a little bit of useful information!). Depressing <shift> and <ctrl> simultaneously is the same as the IBM <alt> key. Of course, this means that programs like Sidekick that require you to press <ctrl><alt> have no hope of working on the Sanyo. Not that it matters, since the program has no hope of working anyway. I'm interested to know how many other Sanyo owners are on the info-micro distribution. If you get a lot of replies, I appreciate you dropping me a line and letting me know who's out there, especially on the ARPAnet. By the way, I notice you're from USC. Aren't you on the info-ibmpc list at USC? --Ken Van Camp <kvancamp@pica-lca.arpa> Army Armament Research & Development Center SMCAR-FSA-E Building 350-S Dover, NJ 07801-5001 (201)724-3675 (AV)880-3675 The opinions expressed herein do not necessarily reflect the opinions of my employer.
