OK folks, a emacs question from a vi user.....
A friend wants to set up a system with an idiot-proof editor.
Most of the people who will be using it have experience in
either WordPerfect *or* Word. The demands of this system would
be VERY low -- mostly entering and editing a few lines of text,
and saving or including outside files.
Now I know you can build frontends for emacs.
q1) Can a simple front end be made to resemble the most
basic behavior of the two wordprocessors? The key strokes
will need some relation to the PC commands, such as
{meta} 7 for F7.
q2) Can this front end have a 'safehaven' key, such that
no matter how confused the user is, hitting x times
gets you to a fixed point (the way multiple escapes
in vi gets you to the command mode, with no fate worse
than a BEEP or two) where she/he can recover?
q3) Can the powerful/dangerous aspects be disabled, so
that Joe/jill does not end up in real trouble.
Note that most of the work will be done in the REAL Word{Perfect} and
included, so this really is a minimum_function system.
