[comp.editors] Emacs on Brief?

boerner@cs.utexas.edu (Brendan B. Boerner) (01/11/91)

Hello,

I started a new job last week and the "official" editor here is Brief
(we have versions 2.1 and 3.0). I thought I'd take a shot at it,
especially since I had heard that it was very similar to Emacs (or was
that the editor from Epsilon???). Anyway, does anyone have any macros
for Brief which will in fact make it act more like Emacs (GNU
preferably). I called UnderWare tech support yesterday and the guy
didn't even know what Emacs was so that was a bust (their BBS didn't
have anything either).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brendan

Hello,

The publications department at Tandem's Micro Products Division is
switching from Word 4.0 on PCs to Interleaf on Suns. We're
looking for a good filter to convert our Word files to Interleaf
files. There are two features we're especially interested in.
We want the filter to create Interleaf index tokens from the
Word .i. entries, and we'd like our Word side-by-side paragraphs
(which we use for side headers and indented following paragraphs)
to translate into a single component with the header text in a
side frame.

We've tried the Interleaf filter that works on Word RTF files, but
the filter is pretty limited, and the Word RTF converter seems
to have a lot of problems.

We've heard of the Blueberry Filtrix program but haven't received a
demo copy yet. We've also heard of Cloverleaf but don't know
much about it.

If you have used either of these programs or know of any other good
filters, we'd appreciate hearing from you. We'd also welcome any
suggestions about the Word RTF converter. (We do know about the
information in the Word Technical Reference.)

Thanks,
