Hello all, I don't think there should be a separate group especially for VI. I don't, however, say this because I don't like VI. I enjoy using it a great deal, even if it is not my favorite editor. But what I see here is a lot of people who love only their own editor and are not flexible enough to experiment with new ones and see what they have to offer. Emacs, VI, FSE, all Emacs variants (like Epsilon, microEmacs,) FullWrite, MacWrite, Nisus, these ALL have their advantages. Some are designed for certain types of uses (like Emacs has some great hook modes for programming) and some are designed really well for desktop publishing (like FullWrite Professional.) If you close your mind to the other bits of software out there and only play with what you know, how will you learn?! I like to see the VI people saying 'well you could do it this way on VI' while the Emacs people say 'sure, but that type of problem is easier to do on Emacs.' Most of us have access to a wide range of editing software, and there is no need for them to compete - I use them for the jobs that suit them the most. So pay attention all you intransigent users out there, because while you are plugging your own editor, listen to what people have to say about other ones. This is not a flame, I am not unhappy about this discussion, but I feel we all have a lot to learn about it. -Bharat +------------------+------------------------------------------------------+ | Bharat Mediratta | bharat@cm.cf.ac.uk | mediratb@p4.cs.man.ac.uk | +------------------+------------------------------------------------------+ | | | (@@@@) /-----------------------\ "On a clear disk you can seek | | (@@@@@@) | I'm Bharat Simpson! | forever..." | | (@@@@@@) | Don't Eat a Cow, Dude!| | | | | \-----------------------/ | | | (o)(o) / | | C _) / "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro" | | | ,___| - - Hunter S.
