About ten years ago I learnt C by hacking an emacs-like editor called "Thief". I was given to believe that it came from a Unix group tape, but I really can't be certain. There were no copyright notices of any form and no indication of any author names. Having hacked away at it slowly but surely for my own personal use and amusement, I would now like to make it freely available (it has evolved into an X based editor). Although I feel fairly certain that there are no legal problems, I just cannot envisage (as a matter of principle) releasing anything without first trying to contact the author (or his university/institute). Can anyone help me? I would also appreciate knowing more about its "release" and what came of it. mjb@imag.fr (Malcolm Bennett)
