I am working on an RS/6000 running AIX v3.1 3001. We have IBM terms Model 3151 that have WYSE 50 cards in the back. For software reasons the WYSE 50 is emulating an ADDS viewpoint. The problem: When I start vi in this configuration I briefly get a message saying "Missing lhs" flashed at the top of the screen and then the appropriate file loads and overwrites the messsage. On the other hand if I reset the TERM variable to =ibm3151 and setup the term in native 3151 mode this message does not occur. The functionality of vi does not seem to be affected but it is just overall curiosity that has me asking this question. Please don't say RTFM because I currently don't have any and an on-line search has been next to worthless. In addition, how *does* vi get its initial setup on an RS/6000?
