[net.micro] Speech cards

There are quite a number of speech cards for the IBM PC. In my
opinion the two best are the Texas Instruments Speech card and
the new IBM Speech card. You can find details on these in back
issues of the Info-IBMPC digest on ISIB. Both of these cards
use the TMS320 signal processing chip and can record/play speech
at various bit rates, handle touch tones and phone interfaces,
do text to speech, even single word recognition, &c.

However, these cards cost about $1200. If you need something
cheaper, it very much depends on exactly what you want to do and
on how high a bits/second recording rate you can stand vis a vis
hard disk capacity.
