There are quite a number of speech cards for the IBM PC. In my opinion the two best are the Texas Instruments Speech card and the new IBM Speech card. You can find details on these in back issues of the Info-IBMPC digest on ISIB. Both of these cards use the TMS320 signal processing chip and can record/play speech at various bit rates, handle touch tones and phone interfaces, do text to speech, even single word recognition, &c. However, these cards cost about $1200. If you need something cheaper, it very much depends on exactly what you want to do and on how high a bits/second recording rate you can stand vis a vis hard disk capacity. -------
