[sci.psychology] Instinct II

gcf@actnyc.UUCP (Gordon Fitch) (04/13/88)

On the question of instinct, which has led to a certain amount
of discussion, I originally responded to a posting which denied
that there was _any_ behavior which could be called instinctual.
I asked what one called the behavior which seems to be "hardwired"
into an organism's genes. "Hardwired" turned out to be a poor
term, but for me, the question remains: are there behavior patterns
coded into the genes of the "higher" animals? If so, if they're
not called "instincts", what are they called?
