Welcome to comp.doc. This newsgroup is for the USENET publication of documents and other text relevant to computers, computing, and computerists. Program documents belong with the programs in the various source groups; this group is for the non-program text stuff. Most of what appears here will be documents that you probably ought to have. Some of them will be documents that you do have, but others don't. A few will be things that I'll later wish I hadn't posted. I'm planning on starting out with a few tutorials, some RFCs (from the Arpanet world), and the like. If you have something you'd like to have appear here, drop me a note and we'll talk about it. We're pretty well connected for FTP and uucp, and I'm a packrat, so I might already have it. Please ask before you send. comp-doc@sdcsvax.ucsd.edu is the submission address. Sdcsvax is reachable from the Darpa Internet, uucp, and from SPAN, MFENET, HEPNET, and bitnet through appropriate gateways. I'm planning on setting up an archive of postings; more information on that when I find out who's got the disk space to spare around here. I plan to keep the amount of traffic small. Large postings will be broken into smaller pieces to reduce the amount of havoc they would otherwise cause to uucp links and news spool directories. They will be parceled out over several days as well. There is the matter of copyrights. I will not post a document if its redistribution is or might reasonably seem to be restricted by copyright. I would prefer that you explicitly place the document in the public domain, abandon copyright on it, or explicitly allow unlimited not-for-profit redistribution. I am told that STARGATE automatically filters out any article in which the word 'copyright' appears; you may care about that. Comments or brickbats to me at brian@sdcsvax.ucsd.edu.
