I'd say comp.unix.wizards is dead. There is no way to ressurrect it short of involving the SS. That being so, would there be any objection from outside of Dallas if I went ahead and newgrouped an auto-moderated alt.unix.wizards? -- Peter da Silva. `-_-' +1 713 274 5180. 'U` peter@ferranti.com

I presume you mean like alt.hackers, so postings from completely clueless people will bounce. How about instead having the moderator address be something that feeds into comp.unix.questions?

And, of course, there will now be the many cries of poor 'alt' propogation. <sigh> *>> Dave <<* [------------------------------------------------------ Dave Ratcliffe -----] : uunet!rutgers!psuvax1!eds1!wa3wbu!compnect!dave | The Data Factory BBS : : uunet!wa3wbu!compnect!dave | (717)657-4997 : : dave@compnect.uucp or compnect!dave@uunet.UU.NET | (717)657-4992 : [------------------------------------------------------ Harrisburg Pa. ----]

And, of course, >there will now be the many cries of poor 'alt' propagation. I certainly hope not with a straight face. Since it is exactly the wizards, rather than the wizard-wannabes, that control the propagation of any alt group, this is a perfect way to conduct a meaningful vote on the existance of a *.unix.wizards group. "If you build it, they will come." If, as strongly suspected, anyone with a real life could care less about being able to post in a group where he can consider himself a "wizard" exactly and only because of the group name, rather than, say, the quality of his or her contribution, it will fall flat on its face, and that _should_ (but of course will not) end the discussion. What will happen instead is screams of rage from the wannabes about rigged votes and fascist sysadmins. I, for one, will then laugh until I cry; your reaction may vary. /// It's Amiga /// for me: why Kent, the man from xanth. \\\/// settle for <xanthian@Zorch.SF-Bay.ORG> <xanthian@well.sf.ca.us> \XX/ anything less? -- Convener, ongoing comp.sys.amiga grand reorganization.
