[net.micro] Leaving your Callan on...

hsu@eneevax.UUCP (Dave Hsu) (12/15/85)

Imagine my surprise at opening the basement door and smelling lots
of burnt-resistor odors. Well, friends, my Callan baked a memory
board today. Took out about 5 caps, 4 4164's, and 2 resistor nets.
Also, left a big brown patch on one side where the traces have sunk
below the surface of the board. I'm airing out the room right now.

Question: How long do you think is safe to leave a machine on? I tend
to leave this one one for about 2 months at a time, and it never runs
any warmer than when I leave it on for a few hours. Power surge? It's
plugged into a surge protector, and has a Corcom filter built in to it.
Time to go upstairs for some fresh air...
