This recipe could be used as part of a 12 course meal known in Polish as
Wigilia, or on its own.  Wigilia is eaten after sundown on Christmas Eve.
.IH "Serves 4\-6"
.IG "1 cup" "cracked wheat or bulgur" "150 g"
.IG "2 cups" "hot water" "500 ml"
.IG "\(12 cup" "poppy seeds" "70 g"
.IG "1 cup" "honey" "250 ml"
.IG "2 cups" "water" "500 ml"
.IG "1 tsp" "salt" "5 ml"

Soak wheat in

of hot water for 30 minutes.  Bring to a boil and cook covered until tender.

Mix in poppy seed.

Cook honey with remaining 2 cups of water for 20 minutes.  
Cool and serve with wheat and poppy seed mixture.

For added enjoyment a liberal amount of festive spirits may be added.  In
Poland the festive spirit is usually called \fISpiritus\fR, which is grain
alcohol.
