Wigilia is eaten after sundown on Christmas Eve. .IH "Serves 12" .IG "3 cups" "water" "750 ml" .IG "1 lb" "mixed dried fruit" "500 g" (pears, figs, apricots, and peaches) .IG "1 cup" "pitted prunes" "150 g" .IG "\(12 cup" "raisins" "75 g" .IG "1 cup" "pitted sweet cherries" "200 g" .IG "2" "apples," peeled and sliced .IG "\(12 cup" "cranberries" "50 g" .IG "1 cup" "sugar" "200 g" .IG "1" "lemon," sliced .IG "6" "whole cloves" .IG "2" "cinnamon sticks" .IG "1" "orange" .IG "\(12 cup" "grapes, pomegranate seeds, or pitted plums" "100 g" .IG "\(34 cup" "brandy" "200 ml" .PH .SK 1 Combine water, mixed dry fruits, prunes, and raisins in a pot large enough to hold all the ingredients. Bring to a boil, cover and then simmer for about 20 inutes (or until the fruit is plump and tender). .SK 2 Add cherries, apples, and cranberries. Stir in sugar, lemon, and spices. Cover and simmer for about 5 minutes. .SK 3 Grate orange peel and set aside. Peel and section the orange (removing the skin and white membrane). Add to fruits in kettle. .SK 4 Stir in grapes and brandy. Bring just to boiling and then remove from heat.
