Although this pertains only to California, others may find it interesting as well. Petitions are now circulating to put the AIDS Research Tax Credit Initiative on the June 1990 California ballot. I believe a bill similar to this passed the Legislature last year and was vetoed by the governor. The measure would establish a state AIDS Research Trust Fund, and grants tax credits for contributions to it for the next five years. The tax credit would be 50%, up to a maximum of $25 for individuals, $50 for joint filers, $5,000 for estates, and $10,000 for corporations. The Fund would promote AIDS and HIV research, coordinate information exchange, award research grants for studies, vaccine development, treatment methods, and education. Californians can probably sign copies of the petition at your local lesbian and gay bookstore. If you wish copies to circulate yourself, the Los Angeles phone number is (213) 278-9355. I don't know the local phone numbers for other areas of the state.
