After the recent request for international statistics on AIDS,
I called the N.Y. office of the World Health Organization to
see if they had anything available. Their # is 518-436-9686.
I was told the only thing they publish is a breakdown of deaths
by diseases, including AIDS, but nothing specific like the CDC
publishes. The book is published yearly, so 1988 is the most
current and costs $75.00 (U.S.) including $3.00 postage.
Sorry I don't have better news.

I can't seem to post this to sci.med.aids, but I have called
the WHO headquarters in Geneva for specific statistics on AIDS
and have gotten (free) stats which are almost as comprehensive
as the CDC stuff. I went through the UN office of WHO in New
York (they gave me the number in Geneva.
Calls to Switzerland are expensive, but a good deal cheaper than
a $75 annual.
Oh, the worldwide figures are at least six months out of date when
they're compiled. For developing countries, that delay can be up to
a year and a half, so the figures aren't quite as useful as they might
be.
Hope this helps.
