Cooling the blood is used in a number of surgical procedures where excessive bleeding would blind the surgeon's view or cause further complication to the patient. As its effectiveness is due to the fact that the metabolism is slowed, I'm not sure I see how cooling blood might help in the treatment of AIDS.
