                       SMOKING SPEEDS PROGRESS OF AIDS:

Men who have the AIDS virus and smoke may be at a higher risk of developing
AIDS symptoms than non-smokers, according to a study at the University of
California at Berkeley. Over a 4 1/2 year study, smokers were nearly twice as
likely to die or to develop a fungus common among AIDS victims. Cited: the
increase of white blood cells caused by smoking may give the virus more
primary targets.
