Unfortunately, this just ain't so. Where did I get it? Good question. I
have never received blood, never shot drugs, and I think that the best
guess is that it was transmitted from one of my bisexual female lovers.
Several of them had had sex with gay men. (Unusual but true.) Anyway, HOW
we got it is of less importance than HOW we handle it. What kind of a
support system do you have? What are you doing for yourself? Is there
someone with whom you can share? Are you asymptomatic? Is there anything
I can do for you--perhaps answer questions, share experience or lend an
ear? I was diagnosed in May of 1988 and have been LIVING with HIV ever
since. Through it all, I have worked out some strategies that have helped.
Although we are ALL different and we all have and need different coping
mechanisms, sometimes sharing can help. I am a medical professional
(forensic pathology/professor). I retired in September of 1989 but today
started back to work again! I am doing a considerable amount of AIDS
research as well as teaching university-level AIDS-related courses. Can I
do anything for you? MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
TAKE CARE!
