Yesterday (8/7/90) on CNN I heard part of a story that a patient who underwent the treatment died. Dr. Alonso's claim was that this person was already quite sick and probably would have died. Yet the patient's physician indicated that with "normal" treatment (chemo) he would have potentially lived another 2 years! In a recent interview of Martin Delaney (Executive Director of Project Inform, 347 Dolores Street, San Francisco, CA - (415) 558-9051) he claimed that this death occured over a week ago but was not covered in the media. He furthermore indicated that the 'second' patient, of whom the public has heard very little, is not doing very well. Delaney stated that the cost of this treatment in Mexico City is from $60,000 to $100,000. And that there seems to be little true scientific basis for the treatment. Personally: "LET THE BUYER BEWARE". -- Uucp: ...{gatech,ames,rutgers}!ncar!asuvax!stjhmc!125!9.19!Rod.M Internet: Rod.M@p19.f9.n125.z1.fidonet.org

This is the latest word on hyperthermia: Dr. Alonso's latest patient (his third) traveled to mexico on Alonso's request, and underwent the proseedure. After payment of $50,000.00 cash, the patient died shortly after the operation. Dr. Alonso was detained by the Mexican authorities for not having permission to conduct experimental proceedures at the Mexican hospital. Alonso is currenly being investigated, and will be the subject of an in-depth examination by CNN. Despite the fact that the patient died, his family has made statements indicating that they still believe hyperthermia to be a viable treatment.
