[sci.med.aids] Heterosexual transmission

Larry.Galbraith@f707.n712.z3.fidonet.org (Larry Galbraith) (08/19/90)

The recent South East Asian/South Pacific AIDS Conference revealed that there
is now a high incidence of HIV infection in some SEA countries, particularly
Thailand and the Phillipines.

These countries are particularly popular with Australians (and others, no
doubt) as destinations for "sex holidays". Not surprisingly, there is the
possibility of them being infected, and bringing their infection home with
them.

The chances of this happening however depends on the extent to which there are
risks associated with heterosexual sex - particularly vaginal intercourse.
There is still considerable debate about this subject, and I am interested in
any scientific data that may shed some light on this question.
