[sci.med.aids] Hospitals

Still, I can't believe the way you were treated in that hospital!...All of a
sudden you went from patient to P.N.G. (persona non grata). It is certainly
possible in the next room there was a "clean-cut-All-American" boy who was
actively shedding Hepatitis B. They would continue their inappropriate lack of
regard in the next room!!

Clearly the need for information exists for hospitals in using Universal
precautions, or better yet, Body Substance isolation. Compassion unfortunately
comes too late, after hysteria, and guilt.

In these economic times, hospital administrators listen first to who brings in
the most money, and lastly to those with compassion (and who have the most
Medicaid patients). If there is a way, the Infection Control group there, or
at another hospital should be contacted and informed about changing policy to
keep currrent with the 90's, before 2000 gets here.

Meanwhile, the rest of us will do the best we can to prevent the hysteria and
lack of understanding which has happened. Stories like yours give my
profession a bad name, and I always work to improve...
