[sci.med.aids] Need info on neuropathy

cycy@isl1.ri.cmu.edu (Scum) (08/29/90)

A very good friend on mine was told he might have neuropathy today. He can't
lift his arms any significant distance, and they ache constantly. I'm not
absolutely sure this is it (he was messing with his car the day before, and
had to get in some kind of contorted positions... I'm hoping it is a pinched
nerve that can be fixed), but I need to know something about this in case
it is (I hope not).

One thing is he was told there is no treatment for neuropathy. Is this true?
Isn't there something out there to help with this?

Second, does neuropathy suddenly just hit like this? This wasn't a gradual
thing at all: one day, he was fine, the next he was calling me to take him to
the doctor. His ex has neuropathy in his feet, but it didn't manifest itself
in nearly as harsh a form, and Bobby hasn't yet had pnemonia or KS. He's had
thrush, and herpes, though. And night sweats, which he's been having again
recently (he's been taking ATZ, too.. so is this a cause for alarm?).

Please help.
