I've been diagnosed with AIDS for over three years based upon an initial
bout with PCP. I was all right for quite some time until July of this year
when I developed some back pain. The docs thought it was a slipped disc and
had me rest, take pain pills, and muscle relaxants. When the pain didn't go
away and in fact got worse, it was decided that surgery was called for. What
was eventually found was an abcess pressing on a nerve. This abcess was
caused by a lymphoma. I now have a diagnosis of high grade non-Hodgkins
lymphoma. They also found systemic PCP which was easily taken care of with IV
Pentamadine and Bactrim pills.
Currently I am 1/3 through with a course of chemotherapy for the lymphoma.
Lymphomas are becoming more evident in long term surviving AIDS patients. I
aam experiencing many of the the typical side effects from the chemo, i.e.,
loss of hair, weak and tired feeling, mouth sores, aches and pains. No real
nausea fortunately. I am depressed a lot. Mostly because I can't do anything
due to being so tired and weak. Of course, I am also still recovering from
the back surgery which makes walking a slow and difficult process.
Has anyone out there had any experience with lymphomas and/or
chemotherapy? I'd really like to exchange thoughts, ideas, comments, etc,
regarding this. Thanks.
