[sci.med.aids] Supseudomomas ... ?

My brother has picked up some sort of bacterial infection which is
called "Supseudomomas" (spelling uncertain). His doctor told him
that this is somewhat rare and categorized it as "opportunistic".
This, of course, alarming to my brother who immediately thinks of
AIDS and is terrified.

The doctor said this bacteria is most often found in the urinary
tract and can be picked up through contaminated water. In my
brother's case it is under two of his fingernails and is quite
painful and may cause him to lose the nail. The doctor originally
thought it was a yeast infection and had been treating that. Now
that the "Supseudomomas" has been identified they say there is no
way to treat it. Is this possible? I'm not convinced his doctor
really knows what he's talking about.

Can someone offer some details as to what may be going on here?
What sort of treatment should he be getting? Does this sound like
an AIDS-related opportunistic problem??? Help!
