[comp.protocols.ibm] bitnet mail -> profs notes

MMH@NIHCU.BITNET (Monra Hammond) (12/04/87)

Has anyone developed exits or other code (or know-how) to
allow PROFS users on a 9370 VM/RSCS node connected to BITNET
via a JES2/NJE MVS/XA 370 node to receive BITNET mail as
PROFS notes?

SHAIR@UIUCVMD.BITNET (Bob Shair) (12/05/87)

I believe the newly announced PROFS Extended Mail product from IBM
will, in conjunction with an appropriate MAILER, meet the requirement
for PROFS-Bitnet mail interchang

The newly announced product that Bob Shair mentioned will in fact do the trick.
The program product was the topic of a presentation at SHARE in August done by
the developer (although we weren't told it was going to be a product then :-)).
From the looks of things it is a very nice package that is capable of dealing
with MAILER, TCP/IP or whatever. If you're interested I expect to be generat-
ing an order for it as soon after 1/1 as possible. I would be more than happy
to summarize my experience with the product after I've installed it. Please
let me know if you're interested (no need to respond to the list) and if there
is sufficient interest I will summarize to the list.

I have received 3 requests for further info/experiences after I get a chance
to install 5798-FBJ. You 3 know who you are and should be getting a verifica-
tion note from me shortly! I don't consider 3 to be enough interest to keep
posting to the list on this, so if you're interested please speak up! Don't
be concerned however if you don't hear from me for a little bit, I'm going to
be on vacation for the better part of the next 3 weeks. In the meantime, have
a good Christmas/New Years.
