[comp.protocols.ibm] unimplemented command in urep/bsmtp

OWENS@PSUVAX1.BITNET (04/22/88)

fixing urep - near to impossible without original BSMTP but

can offer guess. my guess is that the address in the MAIL FROM does not
agree with either the HELO or sender (as indicated by tag). only trusted
"mailers" can lie about who is the sender. trusted "mailers" are listed
in DOMAINS. For example -

*
* Domain File for mailers
*
* Our name (MUST BE FIRST!!!!!!)
*
DOMAIN=VAX1.CS.PSU.EDU          LOCAL=MAILER@PSUVAX1.BITNET
*
* EDU domain
*
DOMAIN=EDU                      LOCAL=MAILER@PSUVAX1.BITNET
DOMAIN=PSU.EDU                  LOCAL=MAILER@PSUVAX1.BITNET
*
* Other top level domains and (yuck) networks
*
DOMAIN=IRL                      BITNET=MAILER@IRLEARN.BITNET
*
* BITNET domain - a network - not a real domain -
* should alias if possible to real names
*
DOMAIN=BITNET                   LOCAL=MAILER@PSUVAX1.BITNET
DOMAIN=BITNIC.BITNET            BRAINDAMAGED=MAILER@BITNIC.BITNET

both mailer@bitnic.bitnet and mailer@irlearn.bitnet are "trusted"
at psuvax1. trusted mailers is documented in mailer documentation.

if more info can be supplied and bug is in urep, we will find fix.
p.s. psuvax1 gateways ~4000 pieces of mail a day and problem is not
seen here.
