CAEC@VUVAXCOM.BITNET (The CAEC managers) (06/10/88)
Hello Everyone! This is a question that is CONSISTANTLY asked, but I have to ask it again. I need help in deciding which networking package we should use to join our Ibm's. Here are the parameters, we need a GOOD package that will allow us to access files concurrently, support a maximum of 20 users or so, and have different levels of password AND hardware protection. (Meaning are the files scrambled before being sent over the network and then decoded at the other end, or are they sent in a readable format?) Price really is not a factor- but ease of use is. While anyone is at it, would they care to explain the next few things as well... 1) What is the differnce between CONCURRENT and NONCONCURRENT DOS? (Good and bad points?) 2) The difference between XENIX and NOVELL for instance? 3) What are you using, do you like it, and what would you recommend? So I don't clutter up the network with all of this, please reply to my address... I'm sure that everyone (except me!) has probably heard enough about this.......... I will then post a summary to the list. Many thanks for all your help- Tom Kurke
