[comp.protocols.ibm] Building New Buildings

ERIC@ETSU.BITNET (Eric Job) (12/20/88)

We are wondering what kinds of advice, reference materials and
examples people have to offer on the problem of preparing an new
building (one that is still in the architechural stage) for data
communications. In this particular instance, there needs to be
data capability in almost every room of a four story clinical
education building within our medical college. Any ideas on conduits,
wiring closets, etc. would be appreciated. We have the philosophy
that, as technology changes, cables will have to be replaced;
thus, the design of our behind-the-wall cabling system must make
this feasible and economical in the future. Thank you for your
help. (This message may be cross posted on other lists.)

Hewlett Packard offers a service called HP Sitewire where they will
come in and do a wiring design and (if you want) full installation
for you. I believe that IBm and DEC offer similar (albeit more
proprietary focused) services. Try calling your local sales office
of any of the above and see what they can provide to you.

Good luck!
