[comp.protocols.ibm] File Transfers Thru IBM 7171

nfs0294@dsacg1.UUCP (Glendell R. Midkiff) (03/17/89)

I am looking for some help/information from anyone doing file transfers between MS-DOS PCs and IBM mainframe through IBM 7171 protocol converters. All of my experience in file transfers has been using 3270 emulation boards (IRMA and CXI) with FTTSO software. We now have a need to let remote users dial in thru 7171 and be able to download files from the mainframe. What mainframe software is required?

Kermit will do this for you cheap. Contact the Kermit Distribution folks
at Columbia University. For around a hundred dollars they'll send you the
latest mainframe tape and a copy of MSDOS Kermit. I put it up on my system
a couple of months ago (I'm not using a 7171, but they say it will work)
and have been fairly pleased with the results.
